Dental Bridges vs. Dental Crowns

Posted .

There are several smile restoration dental procedures out on the market today. From dental implants to dentures, the options are endless. Some of the more common procedures involve dental crowns and bridges. Today we are going to give you a look at both of these options to help you in your decision for a beautiful smile.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges can be a great way to restore your smile, maintain the shape of your face, prevent other teeth from drifting out of place and restore your ability to chew and speak.

This procedure involves literally bridging the gap that is created when one or more teeth are missing. Bridges consists of multiple crowns for the teeth on each side of the gap with false teeth in between. Typically these bridges come in three types, providing the opportunity for you and your dentist to discuss what option will work best for you.

Your dental insurance, depending on your insurance plan, typically will cover a percentage of a dental crown procedure. If you are unsure, speak with your dentist and an insurance representative.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns can be an excellent option for decayed, discolored or misshaped teeth. A dental crown is a custom-made cap placed over an existing tooth to improve the overall appearance and structure of your teeth.

When you arrive at your dentist’s office, the dentist will first prepare your tooth by creating impressions of your tooth, this allows for your dental crown to be designed and constructed specifically to you. Once the crown is made, usually after a day or two, your dentist will cement the crown to your existing tooth.

To ensure the life of the crown lasts, brush and floss daily and visit your dentist for cleanings.
